Brighter Futures Coalition of St. John's and District (1994) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization made up of parents, community members and professionals from the St. John's area. Our mandate is to provide quality programs and services for families in need. These programs promote the healthy birth, growth and development of children aged 0-12 and their families.
We receieve core funding from four sources: The Community Action Program for Children ( CAPC ) and the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program ( CPNP ) through Health Canada; the National Child Benefit Reinvestment Plan ( NCB ); and our most recent event, The Early Childhood Development Initiative ( ECDI ), both administered through the Provincial Government |
From Aprill 1994 to November 1995 our Coalition was funded for a developmental phase in which we identified the needs of our communties, outlined constitution/operating policies, became incorporated as a non-profit organization and developed a long-term plan of action to address the issues in each of our communities.
After the developmental phase, there was a short break in funding, after which further funding was given for a program delivery phase. The money came through in October 1995. The government showed that children and low-income families were a priority in April 1996 when they funded the Coalition for a minimum of three years for a delivery of programs.
